Attention Boilermakers: Have you seen this logo around Purdue’s campus and didn’t scan the QR code? You missed out on an experience that many students have proclaimed as “the best time of their semester”. 👇 Our team (William Zollman, Jenna Lusk, and I) crafted a mystery Alternate Reality Game (ARG) deeply woven into Purdue’s history for vigilant students that needed a well-deserved study break. Over three hundred Purdue students participated in our experience to expose a fictitious club named KONTRA, the most exclusive club on campus. With an unusually large amount of influence over high profile organizations, they keep order by consuming and taking control of members’ lives which include Ruben, our story’s protagonist. Players slowly see Ruben fall deeper and deeper under the control of KONTRA. When faced with the sinister truth, his attempt to find the truth of KONTRA results in his life being ruined. Players were presented with interactive challenges involving Purdue’s campus and history to uncover evidence of KONTRA’s wrongdoings and to make decisions of their own. Together, they sifted through blog posts on an abandoned version of the MyPurdue student portal written by our protagonist with clues to find the locations of NFC tags at historical campus landmarks. One of the challenges that I was deeply proud of was the Leadership challenge, which created clans of players that introduced interesting social and group dynamics we hadn’t considered before. Personally, it was my favorite part of the project: bringing people together in the real world and creating relationships that wouldn’t have happened otherwise. Weeks ago, our team held an event to debrief all players and reward our top participants with laser-engraved wood plaques with their in-game name and achievements. We presented data visualizations of player interactions and held a Q&A to give them a better understanding of the story and why we created the project in the first place. Here's a quick demo of the gameplay loop: https://lnkd.in/gNnRwZjR I'll also post it as a separate post here on LinkedIn. This was Project Argo. We thank our players for their participation.

Thanks Chris, glad to be apart of your team!
Please help me in welcoming Marcus Orciuch to the Verkada family! Marcus recently graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelors of Science in Cybersecurity and Information Systems and will be joining us at our HQ office in San Mateo, CA. A little about Marcus in his own words: “Outside of work, I like to run, do photography/videography, play soccer, or work on new programming side projects, which range from a live local election result app to an Augmented Reality Game (ARG) physically set on Purdue’s campus.” Marcus is starting with two other Purdue grads this week (with a third starting in July!). As a fellow Boilermaker, this makes me very proud... Boiler Up! 🚂 Welcome, Marcus! #verkada #hiring #sales #physicalsecurity #cameras #cloud #vsaas #jobs #recruiting #startups #startup #team #cybersecurity

Last Sunday I graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the Stanford University School of Engineering. It's just crazy how 22 years have flown by so quickly! Graduating from Stanford and playing D1 soccer was beyond my wildest dreams when I was a kid. What makes Stanford so special is being constantly surrounded by amazing people that show a version that you yourself can become if you put your mind to it. Thanks for everything, Stanford! You will forever be in my heart. #newgrad
